Enter: the Bikini Invitational bikini competition. A beauty pageant without the trappings of the talent and interview portions, dozens of minimally clothed women spent five consecutive Sundays sauntering and kiss blowing their way to the hearts of adoring vacationers, reality show personalities and local celebrity judges (who critiqued the women on overall appearance, personality and stage presence, according to competition creator Roni Taylor).
"Does anyone have a safety pin?" asked one contestant in the suite where the girls holed up between rounds, doubtlessly to fasten together one of the suits bearing the rhinestones, sequins or animal prints that were all but requisite. Perhaps in celebration of Independence Day, more than a few contestants donned American flag themed getups. America may never have been so popular at the pool, as judged from the booming vocalizations of some testosterone charged admirers.
This wasn't your run of the mill spring break bikini contest: These women are industry professionals (mostly models and dancers, though both a massage therapist and a financial adviser made good showings). Hailing from Miami to the Bay Area, these ladies came from across the country to snag a piece of the $120,000 worth of cash and prizes given away, and for the chance to join the Rehab Bikini team 2014. The overall winner, Stevie Lynn of Tampa, Fla.,ralph lauren españa, took home $25,000 in one fell swoop in addition to her earnings from the preliminary competitions. As has mostly been the case in Vegas, wearing a little can pay a lot.

Welcome to the Heart of Gaming

Once upon a time, if you wanted to play video games you had to venture outside your front door and physically interact with other people.
You also had to have a pocketful of 10p pieces to keep you entertained, until, of course, you got really good and completed your favourite game without having to face the dreaded 'Continue?' countdown.
From the 1970s to the 1990s, amusement arcades had their fun and millions of players had their fun in them. And then, consoles got better.
There was no cause to pile into the local arcade when you could play the same games in the comfort of your home. Arcades died. In London,ralph lauren españa, one of the last nails in the coffin came with the closure two years ago of the Funland venue located in Trocadero.
But the great hulking white machines from Funland have just found a new home, thanks to a project that wants to bring gamers back into the arcade environment.
The Heart of Gaming is Britain's latest arcade and is attempting something a little bit special. As well as old arcade machines which carry titles such as Donkey Kong, Pac Man and various versions of Street Fighter, it also hosts dance machines and a range of older consoles.
The venue, in North Acton in west London, opened four months ago. Its owner, arcade aficionado Mark Starkey, spent two years collecting and repairing arcade machines before launching the Heart of Gaming with his colleague, Simeon Lansiquot.
There are 23 gleaming arcade machines on the main floor which can house dozens of titles on various game boards. Another 12 are being readied for repair as the venue seeks to expand. Gamers are already flocking to the site, some even coming from mainland Europe. More than 200 people have been attending the regular tournament nights.
'It's probably the first place ever to actually encompass all forms of gaming, spanning almost 35 years,' said Starkey.
Heart of Gamers can pay from 5 for a session and play as many different titles as they like. There is something for everyone. For retro gamers, there's Street Fighter II Turbo and House of the Dead. For retro retro gamers, there's Frogger, Mario Bros and Space Invaders.
'There really isn't anywhere else like it, somewhere that encapsulates arcades from all points of time,' said Starkey, 34, from Kilburn. 'The arcade era is a very specific thing. Because it spans 30 something years, you've got people experiencing their personal high and low at different points.
'Someone in their early 40s isn't going to want to come in and play Dance Dance Revolution or the latest Street Fighter   they're going to want to play Pac Man or Donkey Kong or Space Invaders. It's all very periodic, it's gone through changes and it's evolved over the years.
'The traditional idea is gone,' he said,polo ralph lauren españa, adding that it's not enough to have the latest titles in the latest machines   you have to give gamers some kind of community.
'It's the aspect of socially interacting with like minded people who are as passionate about a video game as you potentially are,' he explained. 'Many of my friends I made in the arcade era through going out and just meeting different people. Now, the whole online thing of people just sitting in their bedroom with their headsets on has really kind of killed that. It's very faceless.'
Video games journalist Guy Cocker grew up in a seaside town that had an arcade five minutes down the road, growing up on a diet of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Time Crisis. He has just returned from Europe's largest video game fair, Gamescom, in Cologne.
'There's a lot of nostalgia for old arcade machines and that sort of experience,' he said. 'People are really interested in going back and playing the games from their youth.'

'Replicating the arcade experience is something that's good and can be fun but maybe it's a little bit doomed because that social experience is so easy to do online,' he said. 'Arcades started to die out when the home consoles were able to produce graphics that were able to compete with them and then exceed what was available in arcades. When the PlayStation came out, that was able to perfectly recreate Ridge Racer and Tekken in the home. Ever since then, arcades have really struggled to keep up.'
Socialising is still the name of the game, he said, but the method of doing so has changed.
'If you look at the games at Gamescom, the big ones like Destiny are all about social experience. They're built around that concept and games consoles are catering for that itch and wanting to play with your friends. That experience is so seamless. I think that's more the future of gaming than arcades.
'It is a shame they have gone out of fashion but at the same time gaming is more popular than ever. It's just moved in a slightly different direction.'
Metro's games editor, David Jenkins, said: 'The death of arcades is a sad but inevitable result of the rise of home consoles. In their heyday, coin ops were considerably more powerful than any home video games device and made by some of the most talented developers in the industry. But as consoles became more powerful   and more lucrative   arcades resorted to fairground novelty to try and attract visitors and now almost no major video games publisher makes new machines at all.'
Things may have changed, but Jenkins believes the arcade still has its place, albeit a niche one.
'That does not in any way diminish the brilliance of decades' worth of arcade machines or dull the excitement of visiting a fully functioning arcade,' he continued. 'The video games industry may have moved on but arcades are still the only physical public face gaming has ever had, and to lose it entirely would be to lose something of great social significance. TOYOTA Cup graduate Jamie Dowling is ready to make a play for the Burleigh Bears No.1 jumper when he steps up for his Queensland Cup debut at Pizzey Park tomorrow,moncler spaccio.

And the dream of returning to the NRL had not been lost on Dowling  one of several new faces for the Bears alongside Josh White, Liam McDonald, Brad Cross, Southport Tigers hero Chris Hodges and Titans signing Joe Vickery,moncler bambino, who starts on the right wing.
