"The monkey in the fighter pilot's helmet is a representation of the United States military might and its brutal action in the bombing of Baghdad during Bush's reign as the president," Anurendra clarified, stating lastly that the use of the verse from the Quran in the artwork was a representation of the identity of the Iraqi people.
"In the name of God, the Compassionate and Merciful, the verse is used with respect in reverse for the Iraqis, who are victims of their own leaders and foreign powers and the oil lobby. It is in reverse because during that time, the state of the world was upside down."
"I had no intention of being malicious or disrespectful towards Islam or Muslims or to create any racial tension with my work. The artwork is my artistic impression of solidarity with the suffering endured by the Iraqi people due to the war," Anurendra said.
"In the last few days, there has been a lot of speculation and anger over the showing of my work   An Alphabet for the Middle Aged, Middle Classes. The controversy has revolved around whether there are meanings and intentions within a particular fragment of the work aimed at disrespecting or denigrating any particular group, racial or religious.
"There has been much criticism for my having reversed the Arabic calligraphy. This was done, with the best of intentions, to depict that moment in world history when everything seemed upside down and inside out.
"That was the only reason this verse,mbt zapatillas, a sacred cornerstone to the Muslim faith is reversed. As such, in the case of this reversing of the verse,mbt zapatos, there is no malicious, evil or mischievous intent involved in anyway to insult or belittle the Faith.

On Thursday, police confiscated an artwork by Anurendra being displayed at the M50 Selamat Hari Malaysia exhibition after receiving a report that it allegedly insulted Islam.
The exhibition at Publika in Solaris Dutamas is part of a nationwide art festival which kicked off on Monday and will go on until September 17 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia Day.
It is organised by Balai Seni Visual Negara under the Tourism and Culture Ministry with more than 40 art galleries nationwide participating,mbt. The purpose of the exhibition is to create awareness about Malaysia Day.
The M50 Selamat Hari Malaysia Facebook page stated that artists were welcome to explore the notions of being and becoming Malaysian in the context of globalisation,mbt outlet, local vernaculars and modern migration.
