bound Eagles eye top spot
Hockey League action.
After dropping a 41 decision to Langley at South Surrey Arena on Wednesday night, moncler nederland, the Eagles bounced back to beat Nanaimo 63 on home ice and then edged visiting Alberni Valley 43 the following evening.
In the process, moncler dames, the Eagles used up the two games they had on the Powell River Kings in the race for first place in the BCHL's Coastal Conference. The Eagles currently hold down top spot by three points ahead of the Kings with both teams having played 54 games.
"We've clinched a playoff spot so the first step is out of the way, moncler," said Eagles coach Matt Erhart. "Our original goal was to make the playoffs and now we've changed it to finishing in one of the top two spots so we can host a playoff series. We're now in first place by three points over Powell River and we play them twice this week so those games should sort things out considerably."
The week started on a sour note for the Eagles as their 16game points streak came to a crashing halt with the Wednesday loss to Langley.
Langley goalie James Barr stole the show with 38 saves to earn first star honours in Surrey's home rink. Surrey's lone goal came from Robert Lindores on a firstperiod power play.
"I wouldn't call it a wake up call but it was a good thing for the team in a way," Erhart said. "We were on a good streak of not losing a game in a while and maybe we were a bit complacent against a team we had some success against recently. We just didn't have much jump that game and their goalie was first star for a reason."
The Eagles looked like a different team when they returned to the ice Friday against Nanaimo. Surrey took the lead in the first minute of play and never looked back in a game where they outshot the Clippers 5533.
Sean McGovern scored the opening goal and then set two others to pace the Surrey attack. Lindores, Alex Hagen, moncler online, Demico Hannoun and the Morley brothers  Tyler and Brandon  each potted one goal to wrap up the Eagles' scoring.
"That game was probably one of our best 60minute efforts all season," Erhart said. "We played really well defensively and we fired 55 shots on their net so we were effective at both ends of the ice. We expected Nanaimo would be in desperation mode as they chase a playoff spot but we took it out of them pretty quickly with a strong first period and continued on for the rest of the game."
The Eagles completed the week with another solid performance Saturday night when they beat the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the third time in a fortnight, moncler jas.
The Eagles dominated play for much of the evening but the Bulldogs kept fighting back to keep the contest close.
Brayden Jaw scored a pair of goals to spark the Eagles offence while McGovern and Trevor Cameron each tallied once.
The Eagles now embark on one of their toughest weeks of the season with five games in six days. Surrey takes on the Rivermen in Langley on Tuesday before travelling to Vancouver Island for a makeup game against Cowichan Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled to be played in January but was postponed when weather disrupted ferry service.
Surrey is back on the Island Friday night when the Eagles play in Victoria. After that, Surrey heads up the Sunshine coast for a twogame showdown with Powell River on Saturday and Sunday. Erhart said the schedule is daunting but the team's depth should work in the Eagles' favour.
"The good thing about our team this year is we have four lines that can all play," he said. "We don't lean on one or two lines too much so when you play a lot of games, it doesn't catch up to guys. We're just focused on getting some revenge on Langley for that loss last week and then we'll take it from there and see where we stand on Sunday.".
