Schools determined not to let pay prevent play
"If a family or individual cannot afford the fee, the district has built in an activity fee waiver which will be offered by the district for families experiencing financial hardships," said West Chester Henderson Athletic Director Ken McCormick. "The fees were designated to be as fair and equitable as possible, and as a result fees were set at reasonable levels that will not discourage particiaption."
A school's booster club also can help facilitate a student's ability to pay the fee, as described by West Chester East boys basketball coach Eric Anderson,
"We have had kids in the past who could not afford the booster club dues so we scholarship them," Anderson said. "If it was too much to pay the $75 and booster club dues and summer league dues, moncler soldes, then we have them work at a function or do other things to still have them play basketball."
"We have a provision that if a family cannot afford the fee, then the fee will be waived and our central booster fund administration will help with the fee," said Avon Grove Athletic Director Jim Connor. "Having kids do things at events to help with the booster clubs fulfill the coaches wish list that the parents get to vote on what the money will be spent on first. An example is this year we used money to fix the scoreboard on our field."
The situation in Chester County, with most school fees priced at $75, is not as dire as in other places. In Michigan, for example, and Ohio, some fees can top out in the hundreds of dollars. One athlete helped his hometown deal with it in a very creative way. Lamarr Woodley spent more than $60,000 out of his own pocket to cover the fees for one year at his alma mater Saignaw High School.
"It provides each student an opportunity to play," Saginaw Public Schools Athletic Director Jeffrey Goodwine told Michigan TV station WJRT. "Some of the social economic problems that we're having here in Saginaw, moncler doudoune, that takes a lot of pressure off a lot of the students, the parents. Now we know that a student athlete will play or participate if he or she wants to go out for a team."
For right now, moncler homme, the fees are keeping few students from enjoying the joy of sports, but if they keep rising, parents and schools may have to come up with new ways of seeing their students continue on the field of play.
The one side effect of these fees is whether or not a parent will feel entitled to having their child play, moncler soldes. Could there be more pressure brought to bear on the coach to play somebody based on who and how the fees are paid, moncler femme soldes?
"It is unfortunate that a family has to pay for their kids to play, moncler femme, and there are families with multiple kids playing sports or being involved in activities," said West Chester Rustin basketball coach Keith Cochran. "We have a great booster club and if we have kids who cannot afford things, moncler pas cher, then we have something in place so they still can compete.
